Divine Exchange

An example of divine exchange only through Jesus: Cast all your cares upon Him and be thankful and He will give you rest in your heart and mind.

"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7.

Another example often overlooked by "legalistic" churches is that God does not expect us to live a life of poverty and that he will supply for our needs in abundance.

2 Corinthians 8:9 "Although he was rich, he became poor for your sakes, so that you could become rich through his poverty." Some will say that this applies to spiritual life but if you read it in context, the whole chapter is about finances.

This is backed up by Philippians 4:19, "My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." and 2 Corinthians 9:8, "And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work."

God's economy is like a continuously flowing river. He will supply you with everything you need but if you put a dam in that river, the supply will dry up. You need to let it flow. When God gives to you He will give you extra to supply to the poor, the widowed and orphans and assistance to grow in the Spirit and spread the gospel. "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38).

No religion offers a solution to life's problems except faith in Jesus.

Tithing - Is it a requirement?

A Tithe = a tenth. Although Jesus makes a reference to the tithe of the priests (Matthew 23:23), the tithe is only mentioned in detail in the Old Testament. Never is any reference to a tithe made in relation to the Christian believer under the New Covenant. A tithe is first mentioned when Abram gave a tenth of his spoils of war to a Melchizedek, a Priest-King of righteousness and peace. This was a one-off offering given without pressure or commandment. These were not his own possessions, increase or earnings but plunder taken from others (Heb 7:4). In fact, Abram also returned the rest of the spoils back to the Kings he took them from so that they could not say that they had made him rich. Jacob also volunteered a tenth of all God gave to him. Both Jacobs and Abrams's gifts of a tithe were voluntary and never commanded or compelled by God or anyone else. There were 4 main tithe laws in the Old Testament: A tithe to the Levites as their inheritance as they had no land allocated to ...

Service First

JFK had it right when he said “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.” The life of the true Christian is one of service to others and putting the care of others before ourselves (1 Cor 10:24). God blesses people so that they may bless others. But we must also know that giving is better than receiving. Why? Because when we give of ourselves WITHOUT expectations of receiving anything in return (Phil 2:3-4), our Father blesses us greatly when we have faith that He will supply all our needs plus more to continue helping others (2 Corinthians 9:8). Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (Matt 6:31-33). It is not an option, it is the Royal commandment we are given by our Lord Jesus ...

Service, the gift of prosperity

We are told in Joshua 1:8, "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." Prosperity and success are much more than money and possessions, it's about healthy relationships that complete each other, knowing your purpose, serving others at work and socially, in the knowledge that you are serving God. You see, "no one should seek their own good, but the good of others." (1 Cor 10:24). This is part of the essence of the law that Jesus commanded us to observe. This makes me look at my present study notes on the "Shema" (Deut 6:4-6), “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart." ...
