JFK had it right when he said “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.” The life of the true Christian is one of service to others and putting the care of others before ourselves (1 Cor 10:24).
God blesses people so that they may bless others. But we must also know that giving is better than receiving. Why? Because when we give of ourselves WITHOUT expectations of receiving anything in return (Phil 2:3-4), our Father blesses us greatly when we have faith that He will supply all our needs plus more to continue helping others (2 Corinthians 9:8). Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (Matt 6:31-33). It is not an option, it is the Royal commandment we are given by our Lord Jesus "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’"
