The Powers



With the US election this week, we can pray for the best and expose the worst but in the end, God will have whoever it is over us to accomplish His purpose.  Our final ruler we look forward to will be not through election but with power and majesty. Our Lord God and Saviour will return soon and every knee shall bow to Him and every power that is not from Him will cease, even the present, deceiving god of this world (2 Cor 4:4; Eph 6:12).

Humanity gave this devil his power at the beginning and continues to by making their own desires more important (Rom 1:23-25) but Jesus took back that authority as the only Son of man that kept God's will first. While we await His return as King of kings, we can be assured that He will see us through all things in life. When we put Jesus at the centre of our lives, "the power that lives in us is greater than the one who is in the world" (1 John 4:4).

Through His Spirit alone dwelling in us (Rom 8:11), we have power over evil (Luke 4:6; 10:19). Nothing can separate us from His love and protection when we put Him at the centre of our lives and not things of our own imagination (2 Cor 10:5; Rom 8: 35, 37-39).

Turn to Him and be an overcomer to sit in power with Him (Rev 3:21; Eph 2:6) and have victory (peace, love, and abundant life) in your life now (Deut 20:4; 1 Cor 15:57; Phil 4:13) and at His return!

Tithing - Is it a requirement?

 A Tithe = a tenth. Although Jesus makes a reference to the tithe of the priests (Matthew 23:23), the tithe is only mentioned in detail in the Old Testament. Never is any reference to a tithe made in relation to the Christian believer under the New Covenant. A tithe is first mentioned when Abram gave a tenth of his spoils of war to a Melchizedek, a Priest-King of righteousness and peace. This was a one-off offering given without pressure or commandment. These were not his own possessions, increase or earnings but plunder taken from others (Heb 7:4). Service First

JFK had it right when he said “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.” The life of the true Christian is one of service to others and putting the care of others before ourselves (1 Cor 10:24). God blesses people so that they may bless others. But we must also know that giving is better than receiving. Why? Because when we give of ourselves WITHOUT expectations of receiving anything in return (Phil 2:3-4), our Father blesses us greatly when we have faith that He will supply all our needs plus more to continue helping others (2 Corinthians 9:8). Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (Matt 6:31-33). It is not an option, it is the Royal commandment we are given by our Lord Jesus ...

Service, the gift of prosperity

We are told in Joshua 1:8, "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." Prosperity and success are much more than money and possessions, it's about healthy relationships that complete each other, knowing your purpose, serving others at work and socially, in the knowledge that you are serving God. You see, "no one should seek their own good, but the good of others." (1 Cor 10:24). This is part of the essence of the law that Jesus commanded us to observe. This makes me look at my present study notes on the "Shema" (Deut 6:4-6), “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.
